The City of Avon Park is accepting applications for full-time (24/48) entry level State Certified Firefighter(s).  Minimum Qualifications:  Certification as a firefighter II by the State of Florida Bureau of Standards and Training, State of Florida or National Registry EMT Certification, a valid State of Florida motor vehicle driver’s license and an apparatus driving certificate for CEVO or equivalent. The candidate must possess the minimum qualifications. Candidates will be required to successfully complete a Firefighters Ability Test.  New Hires will have a required residency of a ten (10) mile radius of the Avon Park Fire Station, 98 S. Delaney Avenue, Avon Park, FL within 24 months of hire. Avon Park starting probationary salary is $29,777.28 with an excellent benefit package.

Work is performed under the City Manager whom outlines broad areas of responsibility and objectives.  This position is responsible for overseeing City Hall Operations, including but not limited to coordination of P&Z, CFRPC, CRA functions, and Utility Billing Divisions. 


Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Public or Business Administration, one of the social sciences or a related field and two (2) years of increasing management experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.  Experience in a supervisory capacity preferred.  Must possess a valid Class E State of Florida driver’s license.

This is specialized work processing complaints of violations of the City of Avon Park, Code of Ordinances through investigation of complaints, routine inspections, consultation with violators and resolution of problems. Employees in this class are responsible for responding to verbal and written requests or complaints and making field inspections and assisting in determining the best method of remedying problems.  Insures that all records are maintained and compiles reports of division activities.  Confers with department head for enforcement questions.   Required to work weekends and staggered hours, in order to accomplish duties and responsibilities of the position.  Should have some knowledge of research methods and techniques applicable to determining real property ownership.    

High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required. General computer skills is required. Must possess a valid Florida Drivers License.  Will be responsible for acquiring various Certificates in Code Enforcement as prescribed by the Florida Association of Code Enforcement, Inc. 

Full-time position with a starting pay at $13.24 per hour with an excellent benefit package.  40 hours per work week which Includes Mandatory Weekend Hours.
