Opportunities
City of Avon Park is accepting applications for a full-time Maintenance
Mechanic. This is a skilled position in the maintenance and repair of
mechanical equipment in the City’s utility system. Work involves
responsibility for performing a variety of skilled tasks, which include
maintaining and repairing machinery and mechanical equipment during weekend
hours. This employee will install, repair, and overhaul operating parts of
pumps and other related machinery. Repair, check, and service clarifier and
chlorinator equipment. Will maintain lift stations, sewer lines, and plant
machinery. This employee will take emergency calls during normal off duty
hours and weekends and respond in cases of lift station failure. Will use
hand and machinery tools in repairing and maintaining pumps, motors, valves,
plant machinery and equipment. Also makes sewer taps for new
installations. Paints buildings and equipment as necessary and maintains
sanitary conditions in the plant by assisting with cleaning of buildings and
grounds. Performs related work as required.
Minimum qualification: High school diploma or GED equivalency, with
sufficient practical training or experience to demonstrate necessary skills
and abilities in performing repairs to plant machinery and equipment,
including electrical work. Sewer collection license is preferred and must
possess a valid Florida Class B commercial driver’s license with tanker and
air brake endorsements. Starting salary: $24,405.68 with an excellent
benefit package.

OPERATOR I / SANITATION DEPT. - GRADE

Avon Park is accepting applications for a full-time Operator I/Sanitation
Worker. This position is responsible for the day-to-day operation of, but
is not limited to refuse collection trucks and street sweepers, for the
purpose of cross training. When not engaged as a driver, performs tasks of
laborer or semi-skilled laborer.
Minimum
qualification: High school diploma or GED equivalency One (1) year
experience operating moderately complex motor equipment and a Valid Florida
Class B, CDL with Air. Starting salary: $21,208.10 with an excellent
benefit package.
